surfed proposed the following answer:
For me to get everything to work i did the following:
install ubuntu-eee
add adams kernel repos from array.org (go there for how to)
turn on proposed and backports for updates
upgrade (sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade) and reboot
this should give you a fully working ubuntu eee box with all the Fn keys
working, there are some snags, like i have to toggle wireless sometimes
after a sleep in order for it to connect, i cant get 801.11n , only g.
Also there is this hard drive clicking sound every few seconds, to sove
type sudo hdparm -B 254 or edit /etc/hdparm.conf for a more permanent
solution.
