Question #48915 on Ubuntu Eee changed:

Status: Open => Answered
Tobias Wolf proposed the following answer:
What about not using hibernate but only the suspend to ram function? In
suspend-to-ram the laptop is not completely off, there is a small
amount of voltage necessary to power the ram. But hte big advantage is
that you don’t need any disk space to flush the memory to disk, and it
is a lot faster to suspend ans resume.
Myself, I carry my laptop around in standby all the time. I never use
hibernate because it’s too slow.
