Question #45464 on Easy Peasy changed:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu-eee/+question/45464

Nanni Ulivi proposed the following answer:
similar troubles with Easy peasy
(could be: wifi or wife?)

The story
EeePC 4G, EasyPeasy 1.0 flawlessly installed from a pen drive (thanks to
UNetbootin.).
WiFi, audio, video: OK. Webcam no, I don't care.
Then, the red button recalled me to upgrade the system. I knew it is dangerous,
but I committed the sin and I was damned. WiFi off, no way to resume it. I
still had the installer on the flash so after sevral vain temptatives I
resorted to install all again. Surprise (?), no wifi.

The diagnosis
I guess the problem is at some low level, under the OS. WiFi is off for some
reason and there is no command to turn it on. However in BIOS it resuts on. So
I inherited it on from Xandros, but after the update it was off, no way to turn
it on.

The cure
I searched the net (with another PC) and I found
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu-eee/+question/44829 (and other sites)
where a workaround is described but for 8.4, whilst actual distibutioon is 8.10
(luckily).
However files are no more as described there. Now the situation is:

in /etc/acpi/events there are 4 files intercepting Fnkeys, in particular
a) asus-wireless
b) asus-wireless-2
both intercept fn-F2 !
c) asus-wireless-on
d) asus-wireless-off
seem to intercept other keys (which ones?)
They refer all to obvious names asus-wirelessXXX.sh in /etc/acpi/
that in turn call in various ways /usr/share/acpi-support/state-funcs, a very
interesting file.

So the cure was to comment the couples of lines in files b,c,d and at
next reboot, wifi was on.

A lost Sunday.....

Nanni

p.s. Till now I had not the courage to test fn F2, also because it's my
wife computer
