Following the workaround for emacs24, I edited: sudo vi /usr/share/applications/emacs24.desktop and changed the line: Exec=/usr/bin/emacs24 %F by: Exec=bash -c "unset XMODIFIERS;/usr/bin/emacs24 %F"
