Yes, that is all true. I can add this: Call it politics or philosophy. Every Ubuntu related project which pretends to be an official distribution (flavour) has to follow the Ubuntu project concept - new release in every 6 months, LTS release every two years, etc. Everything depends on the manpower. Releasing new versions of Ubuntu GNOME in every 6 months will prove the stability and productivity of our team.
Every advanced Linux user can install an old version of any Linux distro and update kernel, software, desktop environment, etc. by himself. And he can stay with this version as long as he wants (as long as this distro is useful for him). But the 6-months cycle is for all users who want to use Ubuntu: they are sure that in April 2014 there will be a download link for a stable and updated LTS version of their favourite Ubuntu distro. If we don't do the LTS, less people may feel comfortable using the OS. I currently have 51 computers running 12.04.
