It is possible to define folders watched by tracker.

It works nice for sharing files (in my case mostly videos) between
users. I just put some movie into shared folder and my 9 year old niece
(another user of computer with her own account) can watch it in Totem
without knowing anything about folders and filesystem in general. I
guess that same would work for photos and music (I'm still not
confident enough in photo and music apps for everyday use).
