Υπάρχουν αρκετές διαφορές, κι απ'ό,τι κατάλαβα, στο ubuntu προσπαθούν "να τα ρίξουν όλα σ'ένα τσουβάλι", δηλαδή να δημιουργήσουν ένα .po αρχείο για ένα πρόγραμμα και για τα προγραμματα που το συναποτελούν, π.χ. τα pidgin + finch + libpurple έχουν μεταφράσεις σ'ενα μονο αρχειο, το pidgin.po. Δεν είμαι ειδικός στο πακετάρισμα ούτε στις μεταφράσεις, αλλά όντως κάτι πρέπει να γίνει στο μέλλον. :)
