Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.
I have reproduced the problem on raring and prepared an updated package. I first hoped that "Now builds on Linux-3.7" from the 8.3.15 changelog entry would fix this problem, but I had the same problem. Then I tried 8.4.3 (latest upstream), and this seems to work fine (except for the warning that the kernel module is at 8.4.2). I've uploaded my test 8.4.3 package build to my experimental PPA (https://launchpad.net/~racb/+archive/experimental/). Please could you test the package from here and check that it is fully functional? Should I be using 8.4.2 instead of 8.4.3 to get the version to match the raring kernel? If so, do we know that the raring kernel's version won't end up bumped before raring's release? ** Changed in: drbd8 (Ubuntu Raring) Status: In Progress => Triaged ** Changed in: drbd8 (Ubuntu Raring) Assignee: Robie Basak (racb) => (unassigned) ** Tags added: upgrade-software-version -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu High Availability Team, which is subscribed to drbd8 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1132302 Title: drbd8-utils are not compatible with kernel 3.8 Status in “drbd8” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “drbd8” source package in Raring: Triaged Bug description: Ubuntu Raring is going to ship with kernel 3.8, which contains DRBD v8.4.2 Unfortunately, the userland tools in drbd8-utils are still v8.3.13, which is 1 major version behind: they are not compatible with the kernel module. From my testing (both in a vmware environment and a live-usb), loading the module and then using drbdadm to bring up a resource blocks for a long time and eventually leads to the message "No response from the DRBD driver! Is the module loaded?". Replacing the packaged tools with a locally compiled v8.4.2 totally fixes the problem.
