The gpredict source package is small (4MBytes).  That's downloadable
even at 33kbps, I would hope!

rmadison shows:

    gpredict |      1.1-7 | maverick/universe | source, amd64, i386

Download that source package, compile it on whatever Ubuntu you now
have, and see whether it fixes the issue for you.  Try:

  dget
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/g/gpredict/gpredict_1.1-7.dsc
  cd gpredict-1.1
  debuild

and then see how much fixup you need to do to get it to build :)
