@Patrick- Thanks for reporting this problem. I find that I cannot reproduce it on my Natty amd64 system running fldigi 3.21.8-3 or a newer version of fldigi -- playback-audio doesn't crash and appears to work fine for me.
Lets have you try the newer version of fldigi anyway, just in case whatever is causing the crash has been fixed. If this doesn't help, we'll try some deeper diagnostics. Please add the 'ubuntu-hams' PPA to your system: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-hams/+archive/ppa ... to pick up the latest fldigi (3.21.13-1).
