Hi ubuntu-hams- For your Ubuntu-ham-package downloading enjoyment, we've decided to start supplying the latest stable versions of many the ham radio packages (ported to all the recent Ubuntu versions) in the Launchpad 'ubuntu-hams' PPA (Personal Package Archive):
https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-hams/+archive/ppa (New PPA users, see tip below) Until now, a few of us have supplied many of these backported packages in individual PPA's (fldigi, x-astir, trustedqsl, d-rats, etc.). Having them all collected into the ubuntu-hams PPA will prove more convenient for folks who just want "all the latest packages we've got", which seems to be a popular request lately! In general, we won't be supplying "beta" or "experimental" versions of packages from the ubuntu-hams PPA -- this repository will just be for updates of packages which have been published in the latest Debian and Ubuntu archives. So for example, if you're running Ubuntu Natty (11.04) but a newer version of fldigi gets integrated into Ubuntu Oneiric (in development), then you'll get that new version right away. So far, I've moved seven of these stable backport packages into the ubuntu-hams PPA (see the link above for the list), a few of which already have versions newer than the version in Natty, and all of which have versions newer than Maverick. Most of the packages are available for Ubuntu Karmic, Lucid, Maverick, and Natty. What additional packages would you like to see in the ubuntu-hams backports PPA... any requests? (Remember, backports of published packages only please). 73 de KA6MAL -Kamal P.S. Tip for new PPA users... Don't download and manually install the individual packages, just configure your system to "subscribe" to the PPA with this one time operation (run this in a terminal window): $ sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-hams/ppa && sudo apt-get update Then either select desired packages from the Ubuntu Software Center, or: $ sudo apt-get install {packagename} P.P.S. If you already have your system configured to use some of the existing "individual" PPA's along with the ubuntu-hams PPA, that's fine too -- such a configuration won't cause any trouble, and you will pick up the newest version supplied by either PPA.
