Right now the Ubuntu-Hams PPA has just been updated (thanks to Kamal), but it's a problem for many with Baofeng radios that aren't backward compatible.
My advice is don't use the Ubuntu-Hams ppa for chirp. Instead use chirp-daily snapshots. This is maintained by the owner of chirp.
