Open your terminal/xterm/console and type as follows:
$sudo apt-get update
allow it to complete and then,
$sudo apt-get instal xmms
$ --> is the shell prompt, dont type it.
This is in assumption that you have a decent internet connection :)
For more,
$sudo apt-cache search xmmms
This will give you a list of softwares related to xmms available in the
repos :)
have fun apt-get'ing !
Syntax: apt-get install <package_name>
apt-cache search <package_name_approx>
** sudo gives you super user permissions to download and install the
software.
