Well, indeed it is possible to use _some_ Windows applications on GNU/Linux by using something called Wine [1] which is a Free and Open Source implementation of the Win32 API on GNU/Linux. But it may not provide very good performance in some cases where you can use CrossOver Office [2] which is a proprietary software based on some Wine code. I have heard that CrossOver Office is pretty good in terms of providing good support for MS Office on GNU/Linux. But in my opinion, OpenOffice.org is a perfectly good alternative for MS Office and it supports importing MS Office documents. OpenOffice.org is installed on Ubuntu by default. Hope that helps, Regards, BG [1] http://winehq.org/ [2] http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxoffice/ PS - I am requesting you once again to join our mailing list at https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-in and ask your questions there.
