Since Dell are now supporting Ubuntu, Novell etc. why not approach support team of Dell either by phone or email for solution of the hardware. In case Laptop has a PCI slot, there is no problem install PCI dialup modem - with driver installation has linux as well as windows. -sri

If you remember they are having trouble configuring modem (dial up, and yes its dial up, no broadband suggestions please).
