now i did this

mounted the iso images
at two locations
/home/ram/UBUNTU

and
/media/SEA_DISC/edgy/

added the following lines into sources.conf

deb file:///home/ram/UBUNTU/ main restricted

and
deb file:///media/SEA_DISC/edgy/ main restricted

then i opened synaptic
and reloaded package files

the error messages

file:///home/ram/UBUNTU/dists/main/restricted/binary-i386/Packages.gz:
File not found
file:///media/SEA_DISC/ubuntu_edgy/dists/main/restricted/binary-i386/Packages.gz:
File not found

so any idea what could be wrong and what next to do ???

would appreciate your help.

thanks
ram
