if one is using the internal dialer of the modem to connect (say on xp,
considering a dual booting system), pppoeconf does not work . that is what i
have learnt. however, you could use the internal dialer on xp , but to set
up net on linux> "you dont need pppoe if you're running with modem's
internal dialer. in that case the modem acts as a router. so just set your
ip addr to 192.168.1.100, gateway and dns to 192.168.1.1. that'll do. the
pppoeconf is only supposed to be used when your modem's internal dialer does
not work. use it as a last option." my friend had suggested me this sometime
ago and after a little messing , it worked :D
