One question for you and the author of the the mentioned write up,
Bruce Byfield. Why is it a CURSE.  Popularity is well deserved.
Earlier I was a Red Hat/ Fedora user and when I saw Ubuntu, I knew it
was thing the people have been waiting for. Plus Canonical and the
dedicated developers are doing a great job in **Making Things Just
Work**

So the position is well deserved and a good sign.

Though there are opinions that Conary(wiki.rpath.com/wiki/Conary)
based systems are easier to manage. But thats another topic and let's
discuss that separately.
