Dear Ram Hi. In similar situations, I have promptly removed the hard drive, connected it to another computer as an external hard drive and gotten the data out first. But then, this is very easy to do on Toshiba laptops which allow removal and inserting hard drives and RAMs very easily.
If this is not feasible, then please try to use a partition copier, perhaps there is a liveCD based partition recovery tool I have used once which might come ot help perhaps Acronis DiskDirector or can do that.
