Dear Moz Thanks for the help. will try what you say. I have "lose xp" on a partition and the fact is even with the official drivers from BSNL and from Huawei i have not been able to set it up there either.
Did a search for the specific device (ETS 2288) and reports from other places (Africa) seems that under 8.04 and 8.10 the kernels don't support this device. A bug too has been filed so hope this gets resolved in 9.04 - if not the only chopice os to dunp this device and get another more compatible one.
