Hi, If it is an ATI Radeon chipset (or has an ATI sb600 something SATA controller) this is a known bug which was fixed in kernel 2.6.31 I think. I had similar issues, the only solution that works for me is to run Karmic Alpha as of now. However, if backports of the 2.6.31 kernel are available you might be able to create a remastered live cd which can be used.
