Have been using Ubuntu 64 bit with an AMD Quad Core (9.10, upgraded to 10.04 beta recently). Haven't had any issues with 9.10 at all. With 10.04 there is some problem with flash, which will hopefully be resolved before final release. I would say go for 64 bit.
