Dear Sir, I too had faced the same problem - the very first day I installed 10.04.
But, I went to the -> system -> Power Management Preferences : - On AC Power -> set display brightness : to the required level ( i did 0%) and - On Battery Power -> checked OK to the Reduce backlight Preferences and -> On AC Power -> Pressed 'Make Default' >From then on the display brightness - remains the same - for the past 20 - 25 days, AS SET BY ME. Hope this gives you - solution for atleast the Brightness Problem - which generally irritates. Forgive me, if this is not a solution, s.sivakumar
