So that means problem is not with firefox. > > Is there any plugin / package am I missing? I don't think so. There is one more thing you can try. In System -> Preferences -> Appearance, in Fonts tab check which option is set for 'Rendering'. If you are using LCD monitor you should choose 'Subpixel smoothing' otherwise choose 'Best shapes'.
