Good example you take a "car" and its accessories - am not sure a car is called by the sum of its parts - its either called a car or the specific model - example Maruti 800 Deluxe so lets expand on this - this Maruti comes with an exide battery, a sony CD / MP3 Player, with MRF radial tyres, with Plexiglass, and with components from god only knows how many independent small manufacturers - considering all this the name of the car will be pretty weird "Maruti Suzuki Sony MRF Exide etc etc foo foo foo many times over 800 Deluxe" yes Linux is the kernel engine and there is stuff built around it - such builds are called "Distributions / Models" and are known by their specific names (and nick names) Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narhwal) , Fedora 14 or Linux Mint 9 (Isadora) and so and the whole bunch of such "specific cars" are called Linux. If you want to contine to belabour the point of calling something by its components then GNU/LInux will be inadequate it will have to be a much longer name.. right now i think Maruti 800 Deluxe seems efficient, plus they have good fuel economy :-) ram -- ubuntu-in mailing list ubuntu-in@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-in
