Hi All, Here is the "idea" for the RSS Reader. Please put in your ideas and contribute.
1) It's possible to develop in Adobe Air (I have no knowledge about this thing): < http://www.thetechlabs.com/tech-tutorials/xml/creating-an-air-rss-reader-application-from-scratch-with-flex-puremvc/ > But can help to get you ideas to focus on what you need. 2) Similarly, http://visualrinse.com/2008/09/24/how-to-build-a-simple-rss-reader-with-jquery/might help you; for "natural query" ? 3) I had forwarded a link to Kumar on the a server based deployed RSS reader called as News Blur. I have written to the developer for an "offline version" because to be honest, I don't understand why should I trust my "data" to an unknown person. Luckily, he's made an open source solution. If you search Duckduckgo for news blur, you'd find a lot of relevant links. *https://github.com/vvarp/NewsBlur* is the source code for the application. I wonder how much "natural language processing" can take place in the offline mode. He's done it in a simple manner. What others have done by "PostRank", he's done on the fly by perhaps Keyword Filtering. 4) Last but not the least. There is another open source *RSS reader called as Vienna on Mac OS. * Here's something I have liked : http://www.vienna-rss.org/?page_id=27 i.e. ability to get the complete article in the reader. 5) I have debated the idea of having a browser+RSS combo; there are excellent open source browsers (Midori/Arora) based on web kit. Should it be integrated/extended? I would prefer some sort of integration because that would help to browse through the article in the reading pane. Alternatively, Thunderbird has an option called as Thunderbird which adds "browser functionality" inside the mail client. I tried it but found it buggy and useless. 6) Would it be possible to improve upon the existing Feed Reader+ browser combination in existing open source product? No one can stop us from forking a thunderbird release with a better RSS reader if the developers are not interested for a better RSS reader in the long run. The advantages are obvious. A mail client+already existing code+better option for a RSS reader. This fairly rounds up the ideas. Is anyone interested? Thanks! Dr. A. Puri
