Also not sure what you mean by" will need only half the number of image
files"

Last - unless you are printing photos in B  & W (draft mode) it makes no
sense to print pics back to back - not on ordinary paper and most photo
paper are designed for (good quality) printing on one side only.

If you want to have a index sheet for your pixs then gthumb will let you
print to index (thumnails with image names etc)
