dear all,

Ubuntu 12.04 hums along with a few burps, with all updates applied as
i write this, on my apple macbookpro.
have a roaming broadband connection, via reliance netconnect+ (3.1Mbps)

once connection is established, wish to share this with other devices
within wifi range of my laptop.
there's nothing else in the room, just my laptop with the roaming
internet via its USB-dongle,
and my wifi devices (smartphone, another computer) thirsty to taste
some broadband juice through
the ubuntu laptop. no switch or router or other box.

how?

have clicked on network, tried setting up a hotspot, it does give me a
network with SSID a wep password,
but on other devices, when i scan, i don't find this network.

On my ubuntu laptop, the hotspot shows up in the list of available
wifi networks. when i try to connect to this hotspot, (why would that
work anyways, but what the heck)
it disconnects the roaming broadband.

searched the web, checked the online help of ubuntu.

what should i do to get this working, please?
thanks

regards
niyam
