I missed that there is another bug to this fact: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-manual/+bug/546295 At least I think that the same text passage is meant even though the page numbers differs (perhaps the reason why I missed it first).
Nevertheless I think it is not a good idea to use a graphical application as an example, also there would be probably no problem with especially gedit. The eventuality that a user accidentally uses sudo with an graphical application which causes a log in problem alarms me. -- Factual problem with sudo on page 123 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/585484 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Manual Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu Manual. Status in Ubuntu Manual: New Bug description: Chapter 6, 'Introducing sudo' Page 123 In the example of sudo a graphical application is used (gedit). As far as I know using sudo with graphical applications is dangerous and I was told to use gksudo (for further information: http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/graphicalsudo). I think that a non-graphical application might be better as a example.
