Aside from what is documented at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-manual/Artwork/ I went with a mouse pointer instead of a computer or laptop icon, as it's simpler and a good match with "Getting Started". Credit has to be given to David Nel for the pointer and icons ideas, of course. While I like to think we would have arrived there systematically, things often look obvious only after being pointed out :) Please have a close look at the kerning of the title. Icons ===== The globe shapes and the pseudo-text are from the Humanity icon theme. I opted for flat, rather minimalistic icons, because they should be like words, not like paintings. Also has the benefit of avoiding issues with export to PDF, as there is no blur, no transparency, no tricky fills. Vish: maybe you could improve on this, or propose alternative icons? Color ===== The color choice is about not putting us on a desert planet, breaking out of the monochromatic tendencies in Ubuntu related design and having a building block for our own visual identity under the Ubuntu umbrella, but not trapped in it :) Pattern ======= The pattern on the bottom reduces the otherwise perhaps a bit excessive whitespace, helps to not have the "The Ubuntu Manual Team" text appear lost and should ideally put further emphasis on the community aspect with a slightly tribal feel. I don't quite dare to speak of an african touch; I looked at many african patterns for inspiration, but this is defined by being a play on the Circle of Friends. Passage into the light ====================== I don't intend to take care of creating a version with the passage-into-light concept.
