it is my understanding (and others can correct me if I get any of this
wrong) that they have this new forum because:

a) they coudn't get a section of their own on the ubuntuforums.org

b) they didn't want to use this mailing list because it was a mailing
list and thought a forum was more efficient for the large number of
people and post they expect to manage in the future. And also they
thought that using this list was imposing a "Canonical" control on
their activities; and they objected to the fact that they would not be
a team in the offical Ubuntu sense until the Community Council approve
them as a team. They didn't want to be bothered by all this
bureaucracy and what they thought was a "corporate" control by
Canonical on their activities and went when on to work directly to
solve Malone Bug #1 on their own forum server. (like I said before,
that's my understanding from previous posts on this list; feel free to
correct me)

It appears that leaves us with two marketing team efforts: one on
this external forum where they started doing their own discussions.
having their own plans, and planning some of their own documents and
their own web portal for public outreach, and another team effort that
was planned to use this mailing list, and build an official team via
the more traditionnal approach (Community Council approved,
interaction with other official teams, lauchpad and wiki pages, maybe
use the Fridge for public postings, etc).

Personally I hope interactions between the 2 approach will occur to
avoid too much duplications. But it is also my belief that the later
approach is the best on the long run to fully utilize other resources
and efforts from other corners of the large Ubuntu community.
