Hi guys,

I'm interested in exploring how we might support Canonical and the
Ubuntu project by creating a Media Relations/Press team.

Here's what I put on the Ubuntu wiki:

The Press Team exists to:

   * be the first contact point for media people interested in Ubuntu
   * produce a library of ready-made press releases and press release
components
   * produce timely press releases to coincide with events in the community
   * act as a resource for Ubuntu teams who want help dealing with the media
   * work with Canonical and the community to present a consistent
face to the media.

When the media wants to know about Ubuntu and when the Ubuntu
community wants to talk to the media, we provide the necessary
support.

Here's what I and other people have put down for some Press Team activity:
The Press Team has been dormant. So that we can do our job properly, we need to:

   * recruit members with the appropriate skills, experience and enthusiasm
   * liaise with Canonical to ensure we present a consistent message
   * determine objectives for the Press Team, based on the overall
Ubuntu marketing communications objectives
   * create a calendar of upcoming Ubuntu events, software releases,
etc that will require press releases and other involvement.
   * liaise with LoCo teams to find national press contacts for the
Ubuntu community
   * discuss the viability of specialist contacts for each area of interest
   * find out what support the Ubuntu teams want in dealing with the
media, and prepare ourselves accordingly
   * create a repository of logos, photos, quotes etc for use by
media (thanks to KenSentMe).
   * create a standard professional template for press releases.
   * pull together a list of presentations which can be used to
"quick-school" the press about ubuntu benefits and new features.

Any thoughts?
