Matthew Revell has requested that I fill you guys in on AssemblyTV, so that you know what it's about, and how it can really help the Ubuntu message.
Assembly is the world's largest demo party - 5500-6500 people in a large ice arena watching demos, playing games, and generally having a great time. More information can be found at www.assembly.org, although things aren't 100% ready for this years party, you should find something of what you're looking for. AssemblyTV is the TV channel that broadcasts from within Assembly. It goes out on local digital TV and the national cable TV network, as well as out to the internet using VLC. Roughly 700,000 homes have access to the hard-wired feeds alone... A big event! I've been working for them (for free) for a number of years now, and I work as both producer and presenter for the news programmes, tech features and interviewing English language guests - the broadcast is MAINLY in English. Last year I was head of production, but I've taken a step back to concentrate on content over planning - so anything sent to me will also be copied to this years producer, Suvi Alanko. Whilst reading this, PLEASE bear in mind that one of our main partners are Microsoft, who are trying to promote the Xbox 360 and the new Vista release. This means that although I can help you guys feature Ubuntu, I can't endorse it over Microsoft - I can only say something like "if you're considering Linux, this is the way to go!". http://www.assembly.org/sponsors/ JDub has contacted me and I sent him some details a few months ago about the possibility of doing a seminar at the event, on where Ubuntu is, how it can benefit you, the good work Edubuntu is doing etc - but I've heard nothing since. If anyone in the Helsinki (Pasila/Bole) region, I'd love to hear from you, get in contact! If you've ever seen the programmes released by the Shuttleworth Foundation in South Africa, you'll know what I'm trying to achieve this year - I'm trying to promote open-source code in every-day life, specifically raising the profile of Ubuntu, as coders are now switching to Linux in their droves, and there needs to be some form of leadership in this regards. Just to wrap off (I'm waffling here...) if you're interested in coming to Assembly, you can fly to Finland quite cheaply (Ryanair fly from the UK to Tampere for under £80, then a cheap 1 hour train in, or direct to Helsinki with BA for £140) and I get two free tickets to give away, someone helping out is more than welcome to get them off me. It's a great four day event, and if you've ever been interested in demos, you'll love what they've done recently! If anyone wants to talk to me about this event, I warn you, it's two weeks after LUG Radio Live, so I really need to have an idea of what I'm doing before then... Hopefully this will have been of use to some of you, Matthew Walster -- ubuntu-marketing mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-marketing
