"Now the big question, who can help me come up with marketing material
and ideas for marketing events like the launch. What approach to take to
get people aware of OSS and how to let people know of pro's and con's of
converting. Want to take a clean approach to this and in the process
make a good name for ubuntu.

Any plans, ideas, marketing matterial etc will be appreciated, if all
goes well I will compose an open-source business from witch everybody
 can benefit!"
After advocating Free Software for a while I would say that I've found the best
approach not to be "Look, you can do everything you currently can on Windows,
but for free!" since this ends up with a 'why bother then?' attitude, so I have
ended up focusing on things that there really aren't non-free alternatives to,
even if they are just little specific-use programs like the countless
scientific apps in Ubuntu and Debian, or things which are great to mess around
in but which don't see much penetration in the non-free world, so things like
Audacity and even Jokosher, since there is Cubase but it is not pervasive among
regular computer users (like Microsoft Office and Photoshop are) and is
certainly not an option to buy for simply messing around in. The same applies
to Blender, Cinelerra and things like that, apps which don't have non-free
counterparts installed on 90%+ of desktops, but which are nice to play about in
considering that it doesn't cost anything to have a go.

Obviously this is just my experience, and this is amongst students (mainly
Science and Maths), and I would guess that in the 'real world' the issue of
do-what-you-can-already-but-cheaper will have more of an impact, but I think
that a lot of people having Office and even Photoshop and things preinstalled
makes them not realise the cost, whereas slightly less popular areas (audio,
3D, video, etc.) are great to play with for average users, but certainly don't
make the mainstream applications' pricetags worth it.

Thanks,
Chris Warburton
