Here is a possible spec for a tool/method of greatly improving the testing workflow,
Spec 1) Automatically records all hardware information, including bios versions, and as much detail as possible 2) Automates as many of the tests as possible and prefills the response (the user can correct the response if the automatic was in error) 3) Supports merging of duplicate hardware 4) Automatically files a bug report for all 'nos' in a standardized format - ie for my hardware 'Everex XT5000T - Speaker sound'. if an autotest shows it working with a later version then it can perhaps close the bug also. Also the autofile could check if the bug is already filed and add comments to an existing report if needed, etc. 5) Has a field for workarounds if any noted - ie links to x configuration files needed or additional packages needed 6) Probably the possibility of emailing the user requesting an updated test report when a new release or test release comes out 7) Should be able to file the report in one of 3 or 4 ways (via wireless; via ethernet; via saving to a USB drive or CD and emailing the file later).
