We should also consider trying to build a panel of community members who will participate in studies if we send them a notice about a new survey. It could be asked at the end of any questionnaires we put together and over time. Sort of like the "MS Advisory Council", but for Ubuntu and it's derivatives. A very simple low effort way to promote the panel would be to add a blurb about it to the Firefox start page for upcoming releases.
Of course we would have abide by pretty stringent guidelines in regards to privacy and whatnot, but i think it would be a powerful resource for the community in the long run.
