There is nothing unethical about lobbying manufacturers to make their
drivers available to FOSS. But, it should not be Canonical that does
the lobbying. It should be the community - each and every one of should
speak out on this issue.

I have raised this topic with the marketing team, of which I am a
member, about making the organization of a community-wide lobbying
effort a marketing team project. I feel that a grass-roots lobbying
effort will have a much greater effect than one company lobbying these
manufacturers. After all, we are the people buying their products. If
enough people demand that these companies, perhaps via their
installation software, make their drivers available to FOSS users, it
may come to pass.

Peace!
