Well, it's certainly do-able for packages with watch files (Debian already does this in the PTS) (see [0] for example). However, it's not really easy since you have to get the watch file inside the source packages, I think. [0] http://qa.debian.org/[EMAIL PROTECTED] Also, I'm not sure that in the general case, it's a good idea to put newer upstream versions in universe (in the case where Debian hasn't packaged it yet). While processing those old merges, I ran into several packages where the decision was made to introduce a newer upstream version, but they were then forgotten.
