Hello Rui,

thanks for your mail. I'm forwarding this to the ubuntu-motu list and
hope we find somebody who's interested to work with you on this.

Have a nice day,
 Daniel

Hello

First of all i've been an Ubuntu user since the Bredzy version. It was however
in Dapper, that the idea of creating Xubuntu came to life, and i've made
Xubuntu my number one system since then.

Since the release of Xubuntu dapper, it was my surprise that it came with
Mozilla Thunderbird, making it to much heavy for low end machines, and it often
blocks too (probably because it is not a native GTK+ app). So since that the
Xubuntu comunity was asking for a more lightweight email client, and Claws
Email appeared as a possible solution. I'm representing a growing group of
users that would like to make claws mail the default email client for Xubuntu
because it is in my opinion as full featured as Thunderbird, and mainly because
one of the key developers of the Claws mail, Colin Leroy offered is suport to
the Xubuntu team for enhancing Xubuntu user experiences. The support was
offered in the following thread:

http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=1977735

That Discussion was after spread to the Xubuntu dev mailin list:

https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/xubuntu-devel/2007-January/thread.html

I even launched the following feature proposal on Launchpad:

https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/xubuntu-email-client-replacement

Almost all the users agreed that the replacement take place, however it is
needed an Ubuntu MOTU, to maintain the package. That is why i'm sending this
email to you, asking if u can spread this info to anyone who is MOTU who could
be interested. I think that the maintainance of these packages wouldn't be many
troubling since Claws Mail developers have been providing Ubuntu packages, and
giving some support for the latest Ubuntu releases like dapper and edgy on
their official site.

Even if Claws mail doesn't make it to the Xubuntu release as default, it would
be a good competion for thunderbird and other emails, and we could all benefit
with that, taking advantage of the Claws mail team cooperation. This is if a
MOTU takes responsability of Claws mail.

Thanks for your time

Best Regards

Rui Oliveira
