Hi, I can comment on that, since I am not reviewing. First, I'm too busy. But even if I wasn't, I probably wouldn't be reviewing anyway. During all my attempts at getting involved in reviewing, I came to the conclusion that most packages on REVU don't desserve to be in universe. There are trivial scripts, poor-quality software, software that has better replacements already in Ubuntu, etc. I'm not talking about the quality of the packages themselves (which can always improve) but of the quality of the underlying software. There's no point in packaging stuff that no one is going to use. I would like to suggest the following changes (if they haven't been implemented already: I haven't checked REVU for a long time, and can't do it now): * Make it mandatory for package submitters to investigate "related work" (those familiar with the acadamic community will easily understand the concept). The idea would be that the submitter should also explain why his package is different and important, what are the similar packages already in Ubuntu, and how they differ. * Add a voting mechanism in REVU, so people (Ubuntu Members ?) could vote for packages that they believe should go in. This would make it easier to "detect" cool packages. * Make it possible for everyone to comment on packages, but clearly identify who is sending the comment (so non-MOTU commenters are allowed to make mistakes :P). Maybe add a karma system, so people who send valuable comments get highly ranked. -- | Lucas Nussbaum | [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.lucas-nussbaum.net/ | | jabber: [EMAIL PROTECTED] GPG: 1024D/023B3F4F | -- Ubuntu-motu mailing list [email protected] Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-motu
