The check already is compatible with 64bit drivers; /usr/lib is the
directory for libraries of the native arch, so that's where the 64bit
drivers will end up.  I suppose you may have problems if you're doing
something extremely strange, like a 32bit install with a 64bit kernel
+ a 64bit X server.

Is this the cause of a problem for you?  It's the first I've heard of
problems with Compiz on 64bit Ubuntu, and I use it.  If there is a
problem, a bug on launchpad.net is the best place to describe it.
Compiz-core is in main, so we're not really responsible for it here
