I do not think these crashes were due to "outdated" versions. There was probably some non-default configuration that caused the crashes. With snap, as I can assume, you have gotten clean user config that does not trigger the bugs. I personally do not like snap and prefer more predictable updates when major upgrades come only every 6 months. And they are usually more or less tested.
