They are different projects all together. Different form factors have different requirements completely so although there may be similarities on the general look and feel it's important to keep them separate at this point.
Should we not learn a lesson from Android fragmentation or iOS and instead of having two version focus on one OS to fit all? It will be easier for OEMs to look at Ubuntu Mobile as 'the' OS for all their needs? Android fragmentation has earned a bad reputation let's keep Ubuntu out of it.
