Hi, this may be of interest to you if you are working on a Mac OS X system and using Ubuntu within VirtualBox.
In my experience, flashing the device with phablet-flash is not simple from within VBox because the VM will drop USB connection when the device reboots, then phablet-flash will time out. I decided to try running phablet-flash natively on the OS X host, and it turns out to work reliably. I wrote up some notes here: http://michael-mccracken.net/2013/09/flashing-ubuntu-touch-from-osx/ It's not well tested or official or anything, but so far it seems to work pretty well for me.
