Uhh, I thought we had already switched to AGPS or something. The last few times I've used OSM, I've clicked show my position, it's shown an error about not having position, then when I've clicked it again about 1 or 2 minutes later, it has my position. Raw GPS should take a minimum of (I think) 12.5 minutes, so if this has not already been improved, then my GPS must be magic? The only issue is exposing some sort of UI to indicate that it is currently finding position, and to indicate/notify when the location is available.
