As a workaround to get you going, have you tried forcing it
back into the bootloader with volumedown+power from an off

time.
Paul, you have potentially two problems, as this is not seen in Charles'
log
2014/10/09 10:31:39 Cache formatting was not successful, flashing may fail,
check your partitions on device
neither is this (sometimes):
2014/10/09 10:30:53 Can't boot recovery image
Charles' issue seems to be something about running out of disk space; but
it's also impossible as there's a fastboot format cache before booting into
recovery, so cache should be empty (Paul I see you have something similar
going on).
I'll need to run my device in a format cache loop to see what's going on.

It's stuck at the "Google" boot screen, can't even get it into
the bootloader.
Here were the commands leading up to this:

I am able to "adb shell" into the device:
$ adb shell

phablet@ubuntu-phablet:~$ ls
Documents Downloads Music Pictures src tmp Videos
"adb reboot bootloader" does reboot the device, but the
bootloader is never reached. The screen stays stuck on the
black-and-white Google boot screen the entire time.
ubuntu-device-flash just waits for bootloader mode.
Any suggestions?
