the current shell rotation has some pretty massive flaws by enforcing the dash and greeter into portrait regardless of what the physical rotation actually is. due to that apps are often out of sync and have to be re-rotated, this discrepancy is IMHO only properly fixable by making dash and greeter obey to the actual physical rotation so the sensor data does not have to be overridden (which seems to cause massive performance issues for apps to pick up the change after they get re-focused again (i.e. it takes a while til they pick up changed sensor data and adjust their screen state)) a bug for that is filed at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-ux/+bug/1465331 (here only dash re-layouting performance is mentioned though) ciao oli
