Harry, so the issue here is that it's giving you the 'failed' to
download repository errors? Everything else appears to be normal -- the
repo list is updated, it recognizes there are new updates, and then
installs them.
My guess here is that you have a ppa or something that is invalid or
timing out. To find out what it is, run this from the command line:
sudo apt-get update.
My guess is you'll get a message like this at the bottom:
W: Failed to fetch RANDOMURL 404 Not Found
E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old
ones used instead.
Run software sources and turn off that source and the problem should go
away.

Nichols,
Per your request some screen captures.
I wasn't sure where to send this (directly to you or some place else).
I asked on IRC and it was suggested that I email you and CC: the
Ubuntu-Quality list..
The captures are time stamped.
1. I start the device
2. I log in
3. I run Software Updater
4. I run it several times
5. Each time I get the same error
6. Ultimately the UI dies (I can't close the software updater
dialogue box, I can't access the controls to restart/shut down the
device, Etc. )
7. I restart the machine
8. The remainder is true even when I don't encounter problems at
steps 6 & 7
9. I run Software Updater again and it tells me that files are ready
to be installed (in this case 14.8 Mb)
10. I install the new software/updates, Etc.
11. I sent you this email :)
I'm running this on a Nexus 7, fresh out of the box, running the img
from March 9th, with several updates since then.
