Hi,

I have two hard drives in my 'laptop', and have never had any issues. I do think this is a hardware / BIOS issue.

Regards,

Phill.

Recap: having problems when 2 disks are installed in a Dell
PowerEdge R610 which features a Dell SAS 6 HBA (in actuality an
    LSI SAS1068E-IR HBA).

If I take one disk out, I can install and run 13.10 server with no
problems. As soon as I put the second disk back in the machine,
it refuses to boot; i.e. I don't get a console and the machine
isn't pingable. Even more odd, after I've tried putting the second
disk in, and then take it back out, grub 2 won't boot through
anymore -- it just hangs at the OS selection prompt. If I hit
<Enter> to make it boot (and don't bother re-inserting the second
disk), the system resumes booting through automatically.

In the absence of any suggestions, I'm going to check with Dell
    about a HBA BIOS update.

Hallo
In accord with Phil, verify that both disk are working, then probably is just a bios setting
