Welcome Ben! Jackson gave you a great overview of what's going on. Since
you know python, might I suggest playing around with autopilot and try
your hand at writing some autopilot tests? Start with this video and
give it a whirl, when you are ready, we'll point you at some tests that
need to be written :-)

The video is indepth, and there are certainly text guides as well, which
can also work. Have a look at these as well

I look forward to working with you!

Welcome ben.
A few things you could do:
Run ISO tests and report the results on iso.qa.ubuntu.com
Run the daily on your PC, then report all bugs you find and
occasionally run the stuff on packages.qa.ubuntu.com
Write autopilot tests. These are either C++/QML or Python.
Help develop the different apps that testers use. e.g. launchpad.net/testdrive
Help with fixing and triaging bugs. bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu
More things you can do are at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/Activities

Hello all,
My name is Ben Blankley, and I've been using Ubuntu off-and-on since 2005,
and Linux off-and-on since around 2000. I now use Ubuntu full-time on two
laptops at home, and I figured it was about time to give back what I can. I
know a little Python, a little C, and a little Fortran 90 (Thanks, undergrad
degree). I'd love to help test bleeding edge software, and already use the
xorg-edgers PPA on one of my laptops.
Other things about me: My day job is an aircraft structural engineer, and
I'm also the president of the local community theater.
I look forward to working with you all.
